Plaza Marietta is one stretch of sand on Nusa Penida's north coast where a restaurant, a bar, a boutique market and a billiard table share the same thatched roof. Boats come in to Toya Pakeh just down the road. Guests come in for breakfast, stay for lunch in the shade, and watch the light go orange over the water with a cocktail in hand.

Everything here is served all day. The kitchen runs from eggs on sourdough at opening to pizza from the oven at last call, the bar pours coffee in the morning and signature cocktails at sunset, and the market at the back is stocked with local finds for the boat home.

Eleven sections, one kitchen. Breakfast until whenever you wake up, tuna tartare and prawn ceviche for the table, nasi goreng and sate ayam the way the island makes them, and ten thin-crust pizzas from the oven. Prices are in thousands of rupiah and already include tax and service. No surprises here.

Sarongs, hats, rattan lamps, handmade jewellery and small things to take home. The market sits at the back of the plaza, so you can browse between courses or while the boat is late.
The bar
Pandan, pomelo, kaffir and lime
The Jerungga Paloma, the Marietta Colada and the Penida Mule are built on island ingredients. Beer comes from Island Brewing and Bintang, spirits by the glass or the bottle, and the espresso martini is the right answer after dinner.
Sunset at the bar
The strait goes orange somewhere around 18.15. Cocktails come out, the string lights come on, and the kitchen keeps going until 23.00. If you want a table on the sand for it, say so when you book.
